From the entrance hall to your bedroom, each room has it's own cupboard(s) that provide much needed space as well as an asthetically pleasing decorative touch.
But, for the sake of simplicity we are going to discuss kitchen cupboards for this article.
A cupboard is basically a cabinet, usually constructed of wood and used to store household objects such as food and/or dishes, cups, etc. The name ‘cupboard’ originated to describe a piece of furniture was originally a very simple and basic board or table where cups and/or mugs were kept. The name dates back to at least the Middle Ages. For the last several centuries the term"cupboard" has referred to what are also known as cabinets.
A cabinet or cupboard is usually thought of as part of a kitchen now-a-days and can be either standing seperately as a piece of furniture or built into and/or attached to a wall. A cupboard or cabinet is normally made of wood but can be found made out of synthetic materials. Kitchen cabinets, or kitchen cupboards, usually have one or two doors on the front and sometime they will have a lock on them. Sometimes the freestanding kitchen cupboards even have drawers. The cupboards called “Short cabinets” will usually have a finished surface on top that can be used for displaying items, or as a work surface like the countertops found in kitchens.
The great thing about kitchen cupboards is how easy it is to customize them to suit your taste in décor. It is very easy to paint your kitchen cabinets, or cupboards, or even paper them to have a patterned design on them. Whether you want to paper, paint, or even just to replace the doors and refinish them with a wood stain, or whatever, the choices are practically endless! You can do your cabinets up in cherry, walnut, mahogany, or oak wood doors and wood stain. Or you can paint them any color of the rainbow. Any color from the basic black or white to deep forest green.
You can texturize the appearance of your cabinets by using a variety of painting techniques known as faux-finish. You can make your cabinets look like marble, or give them a soft aged finish with sponging or ragging techniques.
Whether you prefer the ultra modern look of stainless steel and black and white, or the more rugged, homey look of wood and stone the ideas are limited only by your imagination. Just merely changing the look of your kitchen cupboards can change the whole look of your kitchen making it more inviting and brightening it up.
